I’m not sure if I replied to this post. The Board is heavily involved in the principal search, contract negotiation with Hillsborough County and lease negotiations. Once that is completed we will have exciting news for parents and many of your questions will be answered formally.
We are not permitted to sign any legal documents until Hillsborough County offers us a formal contract. The State of Florida changed the contract this year causing all school districts in Florida to delay the contract process. We met with Hillsborough County on this issue last week and expect a contract very soon. We have reviewed the basic contract already. We are also in lease negotiations and fully intend to finalize that piece of our puzzle as soon as we are legally permitted to do so.
Here’s the best I can do right now. The school colors will be a light blue and burgundy. Students will wear one of those color shirts and khaki or navy bottoms, pants or skirt. We will provide lunches, but the exact details of that are not a priority right now. We do not anticipate the traditional Federal free and Reduced Lunch program, but something better for kids. It is likely we will announce the lunch menu on a monthly basis. Families will be able to decide which days of the week they want to buy hot lunch based on what they enjoy.
Any before and after program must be run by a separate corporation. Lutz Prep is not permitted by Charter law to operate a for-profit entity. The Board will decide when it has time how to proceed with this situation to offer the highest quality services at the most reasonable price. We may create a separate corporation to provide these and other for profit services or we may contract these services out to a quality provider.
The opening of a Charter school is complicated like opening any business. This one just happens to be a relatively large, education business well funded with tax dollars. There are tons of details. Unfortunately, we do not have employees yet, but expect a principal to be announced in a few weeks. The Board meets regularly and communicates daily. We identify the most critical choices to make and focus on those. I hope this information is some help to you.
Now that the school is full are you planning on having a meeting or give out more information on the details of the school to the enrolled families? I have several questions, is the location at Hand in Hand going to for sure be the location of Lutz Prep? Your before and after school program? School Lunches? Uniforms? etc…. Thanks so much!
