As we wind down the first year so many things come to mind. The Founding Board was appointed on December 7, 2010. At that time some Board members had already spent two full years working with SDHC to get the Lutz Prep approved.
If you were not part of that time in our history SDHC requested that we withdraw our first proposal and reapply with their guidance. We did that and took another full year working on the concept and philosophy of our school.
When we were awarded the Charter on December 7, 2010 two years from the start the Founding Board took over with no checking account, no not-for-profit filing and a lot of issues to solve. Those issues expanded as the Board got deeper into the facts. We solved all issues.
We found a beautiful building after hundreds of hours of searching and meetings, hired a principal and teachers and started the six day a week 10 to 12 hour a day effort last summer.
Now we are at the end of the first year. We have signed a new lease with a purchase option to make this our permanent home. We are adding 12 more classrooms. More results need to be examined, but it looks like we exceeded every academic goal and financial requirement of the district. They have approved our addition of a six grade and additional students to fill the building. We are recognized in the Central Florida area as a shinning example of excellence in public education after just one year.
We can all be proud of Lutz Prep. It is already hard to get admitted. Future years will become more difficult. Teachers want their kids in our school and the best are applying.
Nothing is easy and their have been plenty of challenges, but after three years of work we have a lot to cheer about.
Congrats to the board, students, and teachers for all the HARD work put in this past year!! HARD WORK DOSE PAY OFF!!!
A remarkable performance and surely the best new school on the horizon in this part of Florida–we are thrilled to have the opportunity to be part of this dedicated and thoughtful learning community and are anticipating that this remarkable trajectory will continue. Thank you all for your hard work and perseverance.
